Grey Anne

Grey Anne’s music exists on a parallel plane of landscapes and dreams, heartbreak and rhyme scheme. It is also fraught with emotional contradiction–a natural expression of musician Anne Adams’ unique experiences. Owing her sense of harmony to years in church choir and her ear for melody to voracious memorization of musicals, Grey Anne’s unique music and enchanting performances have gradually established her as a Portland musical darling.

Star Anna
www.starannamusic.com
Star Anna was born and raised in the small town of Ellensburg, WA. At the age of eleven she got her first snare drum, started taking drum lessons and began buying her first CDs at the local record shop. By the time she turned 16, Star had picked up a guitar, taught herself some chords and began writing songs and playing local cafes. Her evolving style defies definition but reflects a rural upbringing that provides glimmers of alt/country influences with a hint of rock ‘n’ roll and a bit of twang hidden throughout. Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs are: Star Anna (vocals), Justin Davis (guitar, vocals), Frank Johnson (bass and vocals), and Travis Yost (Drums).

Emily Wells
www.myspacemusic.com/emilywells
Inspired by the likes of Nina Simone, Biggie Smalls, the Beethoven Piano Sonatas and Bob Dylan; Emily Wells’ feels these artists have found their way into her own blend of classical and hip hop. On stage she brings together live sampling of violin, vocals, various toys, glockenspiels, synths and whatever else she can fit in her giant black flight case. She is joined onstage by drummer Sam Halterman and Joey Reina who bring style, bump, and grace to the performances.

Lovers
www.myspace.com/loverstheband
On their latest album I Am The West, Portland, Oregon based music troupe Lovers have reinvented themselves as an exciting new incarnation, with a modern, sexy, often danceable edge. Since 2001, songwriter Carolyn Berk has established her unique voice under the Lovers moniker with three acclaimed, haunted, heart-broken releases (Starlit Sunken Ship, The Gutter and the Garden, Sleep With Heat). Berk’s latest creative collaboration with pop-obsessed multi-instrumentalist producer Suny Lyons, multi-talented guitarist Emily Kingan, and video/performance artist Kerby Ferris, focuses three wildly ambitious and boldly sincere artists on hooky beats, interactive performance, and a promise to engage and challenge mainstream and indie audiences alike.

Y La Bamba
www.myspace.com/ylabamba
Citing the Portland local music scene as a kind of savior, what began as a journey of self-actualization and musical transformation for Luz Elena has evolved into what many now know as Y La Bamba – a collaboration between Elena, Ben Meyercord, drummer Mike Kitson, guitarist David Kyle and accordionist Eric Shrapel. Borrowing from her parents’ heritage of traditional ‘30’s Mexican music, in addition to artists like Loch Lomond and Devendra Banhardt; Y La Bamba’s music draws from a deep well of varying influences.

Tender Forever
www.myspace.com/tenderforever
Melanie Valera’s Franco-American pop project, Tender Forever, is the biggest, softest sound you’ve heard. In a world exploding with communication, Tender Forever sits neatly in the center, spanning nationalities, seeking to close the gaps between countries, ideologies, and ultimately…hearts. For all their power, Tender Forever songs remain just that; tender. A song is a delicate thing and Melanie coaxes these fragile things into the larger world.

Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside
www.myspace.com/sallieford
Originally hailing from Asheville, NC, Sallie Ford has called Portland home since 2006. With influences including all the female jazz greats such as Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington, Ford performs with reckless abandon as her vocals walk the line between vintage AM radio tone and brawny punk. Most recently on tour with The Avett Brothers, Ford is supported by The Sound Outside’s Tyler Tornfelt on upright bass, Ford Tennis on drums, and Jeff Munger on lead guitar; together delivering a balance between tight rock and roll and intimate blues.
