Portland OR, USA – Lethal Lesbian 3, a collection of Israeli lesbian short films, will be held on Sunday, November 30 at 1:30 pm (Thanksgiving weekend) at the Clinton St. Theatre, located at 2522 SE Clinton St. Reception and after party will follow the screening at Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison St.
The program includes 7 shorts and one 50 minute drama, The Other War, by Tamar Glezerman. Before the screening, QueerVideos, a 5 minute video-art piece by Shiri Blumenthal, will be screened.
After party admission is free for patrons of the screening, and $5 at the door for those attending the party only. At the after party, Portland's hottest 2x4 duo, RoboPony (DJ Automaton & DJ Equestrian from Limited Edition and Pop Tart), will host two of Israel's leading DJ's, Tami Bibring and Yoav Arnon (more about the DJ's in this document). There will also be a special performance at the after party produced by Sinn Savvy productions, a newly formed production company housing some of Portland's premier queer talent including: Rose City Sirens, Burlesquire, and River City Riders.
Lethal Lesbian 3 premiered at Barzilay club in Tel Aviv, on August 2, 2008, along with a lesbo-centric art exhibition that combined video, performance art, painting and photography. The event was followed by an after party. In response to the high demand, additional screenings were shown at The Third Ear, a movie theater in Tel Aviv.
The curator of the Lethal Lesbian 3 collection, and co-producer of the event, Anat Nir, a queer event planner from Tel-Aviv says, "Lethal Lesbian 3 brings the queer community quality films by lesbians, with lesbians and about lesbians. The films in the program are of different lengths and deal with different issues including: self-identity, love, politics, gender, relationships and culture."
For the Clinton St. Theatre event, Nir has collaborated with Kaki Marshall, a local party promoter, who runs Pop Tart. Kaki Marshall says, "I was honored to be invited to co-produce the event. I feel this event offers Portlanders a window into Israeli queer culture and enriches our sense of global community. The body of work is not like any I have ever seen. Being part of this event that connects cultures, identities, and transcends politics through a very human element is an inspiration."
Nir continues, "The event in Portland is very special to me since people outside of Israel can enjoy the collection. I have selected Portland for its huge queer, transgender, and lesbian scene and its thriving independent filmmaking community. I researched Kaki and immediately knew she was the right person to work with on this.

FINDING COMMON GROUND IN NEW ORLEANS is a short documentary that addresses the social injustice that took place during and after the hurricane Katrina disaster through the lens of poet and activist Walidah Imarisha. FINDING COMMON GROUND IN NEW ORLEANS looks at the effects that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have had on New Orleans and the surrounding area. Through compelling and often heart wrenching interviews with residents, survivors, activists, volunteers and officials, the landscape of a city devastated by the government’s criminal negligence and trying to rebuild comes to light. This film includes exclusive footage shot in the makeshift bus station jail known as “Camp Amtrak” and interviews with officials at the jail about the city’s criminal justice system, or lack thereof. The short documentary is able, through the lens of personal accounts that speak to broader issues and concerns, to capture the pain, the loss and the hope of New Orleans.
ABOUT THE PANELISTS
A historian at heart, reporter by (w)right, rebel by reason, Walidah Imarisha is a spoken word artist and aspires to be a revolutionary.
Walidah has toured the country several times performing, lecturing and challenging.Connie Durkee has worked for the past 6 years at In Defense of Animals (IDA), an international animal protection organization dedicated to ending the exploitation and abuse of animals by raising the status of animals beyond that of mere property, and by defending their rights, welfare and habitat. After Hurricane Katrina, Connie made 10 trips to New Orleans and Mississippi helping rescue dogs and cats. Most of these trips involved the transporting of animals out of Louisiana and Mississippi to shelters across the US. In each transport, anywhere from 30 - 50 animals were rescued each trip.
Shane Endicott is the executive director of Our United Villages. The ReBuilding Center, a project of Our United Villages, is vibrant resource working to strengthen the environmental, economic, and social fabric of local communities. Founded by volunteers in 1998, The ReBuilding Center has grown to become the nation’s largest non-profit reuse center for salvaged construction and remodeling materials. The ReBuilding Center travelled to New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina to offer help and training in deconstruction.
Nicole Taylor made New Orleans, Louisiana her home for 11 years. Her love for the city and its cultural diversity led her to earn a BA in cultural anthropology and a MSUS in applied anthropology from the University of New Orleans. Nicole worked with social activists and neighbors in the 9th Ward neighborhood, where she lived, to fight for sustainable food access and for social equality. Post-levee failure, Nicole returned to New Orleans for two years and worked with the Crescent City Farmers Market, The International School of Louisiana, and a family of friends to rebuild. She now resides in Portland, Oregon and is trying to begin again.
and special guests, The Oz Street Fossils...
The Oz St. Fossils is the brain child of R.F. Maxwell, a Portland-based inventor of songs beautifully strange and unusal. His creations are recently fossilized gems polished with rusted guitar strings, rosin and busted piano keys. "Felix" picks the guitar in the spirit of a Piedmont ghost and shouts hope to characters of woe. The haunting melodies of Lily Marz's saw, Nate Lumbard's clarinet and Huck Notari's piano resonate atmospheric beauty throughout his unique tales of misadventure... Inventing under the influence of Celery Hauntings, the Dirt Poet, Felix has been composing and performing his own material for over a decade and has a library of unreleased recordings. Perhaps better known as Bob Scarecrow, washboardist, banjo player and recording artist for The Kitchen Syncopators and Northwest eccentric, ragtime guitarist Baby Gramps, Felix has performed for thousands across the country on sidewalks and stages. Currently with the Oz St. Fossils, he has two releases, "Live at the Tractor Tavern" and "Three Parts Ghost."
Proceeds for the night will benefit Common Grounds Relief and The New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund.
Common Ground's mission is to provide short term relief for victims of hurricane disasters in the gulf coast region, and long term support in rebuilding the communities affected in the New Orleans area.
Common Ground is a community-initiated volunteer organization offering assistance, mutual aid and support. The work gives hope to communities by working with them, providing for their immediate needs and emphasizing people working together to rebuild their lives in sustainable ways.
The New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund, a grass roots 501c(3), was founded after Katrina by and for displaced musicians, and has provided housing, transportation, instruments and grants.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .For the second year, Siren Nation is producing "Lady Sings the Blues: A Tribute to Billie Holiday." We are proud to present an assortment of Portland's finest female musicians paying homage to Billie, each in her unique style.
In keeping with our mission to promote women in the arts it seems appropriate to offer tribute to Holiday as one of the leading inspirations for women musicians, a pioneer as both a Blaeir genre. Tahoe Jackson, of Black Angel, has graciously agreed to emcee for the evening, and we hope to hear her offer a few renditions as well. The line-up for the night is: Acoustic Minds, Reina G. Collins, Oracle with Keith Schreiner, Midnight Serenaders, Morgan Grace, Malcolm Rollick and Beth Willis.
Acoustic Minds
"Sweet soul driven harmonies over tight powerful songwriting. Acoustic Minds grabs you from the start and doesn't let go. Influences vary from deep blues to soulful rock. Live performances are a must see for this twin fronted group. You stand witness to the magic as it happens."
Reina G. Collins
"Reina's voice has been described as 'warm as the color of deeply polished wood' and 'smooth and fiery at the same time - like top shelf tequila.' She's an engaging and dynamic performer- imagine Tom Petty's Heartbreakers backing up the love child of Patti Smith & Chris Isaak."
Oracle
"Oracle is a Portland, OR based brother-sister duo fronted by the powerful and dynamic vocals of Orianna Herrman and the superb acoustic variations of Michael Hermann. Together they create acoustic soul rock original compositions. Oracle is an electro-acoustic blend of unabashedly fierce vocals underlined with exquisitely melodic guitar variations."
Midnight Serenaders
The Midnight Serenaders perform an infectious blend of old-time jazz and early swing, offering up a sweet collection of songs and tunes from the early 20th century. Fronted by guitar "
Morgan Grace
Named Best Emerging Artist of 2006 at American Idol Underground, Morgan Grace is an award winning songwriter and chameleon like performer delivering sets from stark tragic solo acoustic to swinging jazz trio cabaret to loud impassioned punk rock.
Malcolm Rollick
Honest is the best way to describe Rollick's music. She prefers improvising; spontaneity feels most genuine. "When I'm improvising," says Rollick, "I can say things I don't have the guts to say otherwise."
Beth Willis
A voice with vintage soul, an addiction to acoustic instruments, a rock edge, smoothed out by a touch of melancholy blues.
